About
Danny Leal is a photographer based in Geneva whose practice is rooted in argentic photography and material transformation. His relationship to photography is grounded in hands-on work with black-and-white film, where technical practice and material experimentation form the basis of his approach. Film is approached not only as a medium of representation, but as a physical substance capable of change, fragility, and reconfiguration.
Working primarily with black-and-white photographic film, he manipulates, dismantles, and reassembles film emulsions to construct new images from fragments, chance, and physical intervention. This process introduces a dialogue between control and unpredictability, where figures, textures, and landscapes may emerge, dissolve, or remain incomplete. The resulting images form psychological spaces shaped by erosion, memory, and transformation, questioning the stability of the photographic image and its original function.
Alongside his personal practice, Danny Leal works as a photographer within contemporary art contexts, regularly documenting exhibitions, artworks, live performances, and other artistic events.
